Cheng Jiu isn’t as active as other baby pandas. As the leader of year 2014, Cheng Jiu was very quiet at the beginning. As he was growing up he began to be more livelier.

Cheng Ji stood up and walked to the opposite corner, lying for a while and continued to lick her birth canal, soon the baby was born. Cheng Ji hold him in her mouth and put in her arms so he wouldn’t fall.
Cheng Jiu is the ninth child of Cheng Ji, and also the only one born as a single cub. Therefore, the breeder named this baby "Cheng Jiu", where “Cheng” means “achievement”and“jiu” is a homophone of “nine" in Chinese, it is also a praise of Cheng Ji.
